RELL BUDGET Gov. M. Jodi Rell's two-year, $38.4 billion budget proposal would cut 400 jobs, seek hundreds of millions of dollars in concessions from state labor unions and eliminate or consolidate 23 state commissions to make up an estimated $8.6 billion budget shortfall.  Read article here.

"Little Dig" Outsourcing Scandal 'as ugly as it gets.'  Four SEIU Local 2001 members testified at legislative oversight hearings at the state capitol the week of July 16 into the "Little Dig" outsourcing scandal -- and were featured in numerous news articles and broadcast clips.  See the SEIU contracting media website for full text of all the articles and the video coverage.

Good News, Bads News on Connecticut Clean Contracting Bill:
October 9, 2007 Journal Inquirer  The Connecticut State Employees Association is wondering why there was no fanfare when Gov. M. Jodi Rell signed the "clean contracting'' bill on Saturday that was finally passed last month on its fifth try.
June 7, 2007 Journal Inquirer  published the first news report on the bill, which includes CSEA/SEIU, Local 2001 Political Director Rick Melita's comments -- it is a must read for the true story of how special interests moved their keepers in the CGA worked to protect their own.
June 7, 2007 post at the ACEC/CT Executive Director's "blog" for their "spin" on the bill, which would have absolutely hurt their ability to exploit CT taxpayers with costly public project contracts.
CSEA/SEIU Local 2001 issued this press release on June 8, 2007 to announce their continued commitment to keeping the coalition that nearly passed this bill together moving forward...they also placed blame for the delaying tactics where it belongs -- on the private sector consultant lobby, and are preparing to expose the role of the lawmakers who did their bidding.
On Little Dig scandal news:
CSEA/SEIU Local 2001's behind the scenes efforts brought out the name of the private consultants conspicuously left out of the Knowles/Hill audit report on the Little Dig -- Close, Jensen & Miller (see page #15 of "Highway Robbery" for a refresher on their role in public contracting abuse)...last week the New Haven Register had this very informed article on their role in designing the Little Dig.
